Choosing the Right Engine Oil - Vol.2

Every vehicle's engine requires engine oil for it to function correctly. Without the engine oil, the car will not be able to give the full performance that it has been designed to give. For this reason it is very important that your car is topped up with the correct engine oil on a regular basis.

Engine oils come in various different forms and sizes. When talking about forms, there are certain scopes that engine oils can be found in. In total there are usually four to five different types. When talking about sizes, engine oil is known to come in various bottle sizes in terms of liters. They range between two to five liter bottles. Which scope engine oil and size you choose will solely be based upon the vehicle that you are driving.

Choosing the Right Engline Oil

There are many ways that you can find out which engine oil is best suited for your vehicle. There are certain cars that have been designed with an engine to be compatible on more than one engine oil. However it is very important to keep this in mind that you should never mix two different types of engine oil at the same time even if your engine has been designed for both. If you do decide to change the type of engine oil that you are currently using in your vehicle's engine, there is a set procedure that you have to follow. Take your car to the garage and get them to fully drain your vehicle of the current engine oil in your engine. Remove the oil filter and replace it with a brand new one. Once having done so, you should only then fill up your engine with a new type of engine oil.

Choosing the Right Engline Oil

Seeing that you will be required to check your car's engine oil on a regular basis, there are chances there the engine oil may fall beneath the level that it should be. You can easily check the vehicles engine oil using the nozzle that is found under the hood on top of the car's engine. Simply pull out the stick and look to see where the engine oil is marked. When checking the engine oil if your vehicle it is important to make sure that the car has not been driven for the past five hours. If you have driven the vehicle you have to make sure that it cools down before you take a reading.

For this reason it is advised that you wait till the next day and check your vehicle's engine oil the following day before you start your car. When you pull out the nozzle the first time round, use a tissue to wipe all the oil off the stick. Dip the stick, using the nozzle, back into the vehicle's engine and then take a reading of where the point is. If you find that your car engine's oil is slightly lower than it should be, it is recommended that you top it up using the given area on the engine. Make sure you do not put too much in as this could end up damaging your engine.

You can easily find out which engine oil that is right for your vehicle. Most mechanics will know which engine oil is made for which car. However the best way is to refer to the chart that is provided in nearly all stores that sell engine oil. The chart clearly states which engine oil is designed for which specific vehicle, model and year number. This way you will know that you are topping up your car with the correct engine oil.
